post news network, Bhubaneswar, July 23: In a bid to make the workers of the city aware and provide them all possible assistance, a labour facilitation centre was inaugurated jointly by a city based voluntary organisation, Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD) and Action Aid at Nayapali Square, here in the city, Thursday.
The main objective behind the opening of the facilitation centre is to improve the lifestyle of the workers by spreading education among them, making them aware of the available social security measures, including the night shelter facilities for the homeless, and also teaching them the art of living with dignity.
Sadasiv Swain, secretary CCWD, said, “Many workers have not been benefited yet due to the lack of awareness among them about the major facilities provided by the state government. Facilities such as night-shelters for the homeless workers, financial supports and many more are provided by the government, but the workers have not benefited so far from these offers due to lack of awareness. Therefore, the centre will make them aware and take every initiative to help these workers so that they can take full advantage of all available facilities.”
Some 200 labours of the state were present at the inauguration programme. “I never knew that the government has formed a body to help us. I and my husband enrolled our names today,” said Sabitri Gouda, a worker. The awareness meetings would be held at this centre, twice a month, a source informed.
