New Delhi: The Union government Friday announced that the Veer Surendra Sai airport at Jharsuguda will be connected to six main cities under Ministry of Civil Aviation’s Regional Connectivity scheme-UDAN with a view to strengthen the state’s air connectivity.
Briefing the media here, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas minister Dharmendra Pradhan said Jharsuguda airport will be connected to Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Raipur under UDAN-3.
The minister further said that the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) Bhubaneswar airport will be connected to Varanasi, Rourkela, Kalaikunda and Jagdalpur, while the new airport at Rourkela will be connected to Raipur and Bhubaneswar under UDAN-3.
“We are keen to increase air passenger traffic to and from Bhubaneswar and have commissioned upgradation and development of existing the terminals and a new integrated Terminal 3 at a cost of over `1,050 crore,” said Pradhan, adding that a total sum of over `160 crore have been sanctioned for the development of airports at Jharsuguda, Jeypore, Ukela and Rourkela taking the cumulative allocation to over `1,200 crore.
