Khaira: Rock inscriptions, believed to be 600 years old, were recovered near Chandi temple at Goliha under Khaira block in Balasore district.
Various places of Khaira block have relics of ancient temples and Buddhist and Jain cultures. New findings about antiquity have come to the fore after decoding and research by archeologists and historians on the ancient rocks, statues, archeological articles which were found on Sundira, Gada, Kupari, Palasa, Jalanga hills and at the foothills of Suasari hills.
History professor Dr Ajay Kumar Nayak of Oupada Mahavidyalaya has discovered the latest rock edicts at Goliha.
Subrat Acharya, professor of History in Ravenshaw University, has revealed some new facts.
The latest rock edicts belong to the 14th or 15th century and were written in the first prototype of Odia script.
The rock has 14 lines while first five lines were defaced and not legible.
The rock edicts tell about the landed properties of temple with warning that if people grab the land, their next 57 generations will be afflicted with miseries.
Besides, 10 ancient statues including two of Lord Buddha and one of Tara, are being worshipped in the temple.
The archeological evidence says that there were two towering temples – one Buddhist and another Hindu- at the place.
Locals demanded a museum for protection of the artefacts.
