Bhubaneswar: Tension continues to grip the Utkal University’s Vani Vihar campus over the entry of non-students, preventing the scheduled ‘Why I Stand For’ event from beginning.
The situation escalated after chairs were thrown inside the campus auditorium, triggering heated exchanges and slogan-shouting by various student organisations. Police faced a tough time trying to evict non-students from the campus.
To bring the situation under control, the Commissioner of Police (CP) and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) reached the spot and urged non-students to leave the campus immediately.
The senior police officials also sought cooperation from all candidates to maintain peace and order.
According to the administration, the ‘Why I Stand For’ programme will begin only after non-students vacate the campus.
