Cuttack, Dec 8: Chand Club and Rising Star Club registered contrasting victories in matches of the FAO first division super league played Tuesday at the Barabati Stadium. In the first match Chand Club trounced Jay Durga Club 4-1 while in the second Rising Star scraped past Orissa Police 2-1.
Owolesho Abey was the star performer for Chand Club with a hat-trick. He got his goals in the third, 17th and 48th minutes. The other goal for Chand Club was scored by Shashikantb Sandil in the 20th minute. Mahesh Sahu got a consolation for Jay Durga in the 23rd minute.
The second game of the day was a keenly-contested affair with fortunes swinging like a pendulum. It was Orissa Police who took the lead in the 13th minute through Rabi Mundari. However, Rising Star got the equaliser through Adetola Abbey in the 33rd minute. He again got the winning goal in the 53rd minute to ensure three points for his side.
Wednesday’s matches: Sunrise Club vs Independent Club (1.00pm); Bidanasi Club vs Rising Student Club (3.00pm).
Amarnagar triumph
Amarnagar emerged champion in the VIIIth DCPL Volleyball Tournament which concluded Monday at the Dosinga Ground near Dhamra Port. In the final, Amarnagar defeated Dosinga Club. Ten teams participated in the competition. Sahadev Pal and Surajit Jena were adjudged the best smasher and best player of the tournament. Both represented the Dosinga Club.
