Chandigarh, UP register convincing victories

Cuttack, May 10: Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh beat their respective opponents convincingly in different matches of the Sub-junior Girls’ National football Championship at the Barabati Stadium here Sunday.

Anju scored four goals, including a hat-trick to help Chandigarh drub Himachal Pradesh 5-0. She scored in the ninth, 30th, 56th and 71st minutes respectively. Pramila also found the back of the net once in the 79th minute.

Uttar Pradesh spanked Kerala 4-1. Khushboo Banoo (seventh, 42nd) and Praveen Banoo (84th, 87th) scored a brace each for the winning team.

In another match, Telangana pipped Delhi 1-0. The all important goal was scored by Smriti in the 75th minute. The match between Madhya Pradesh and Pondichery ended in a 1-1 draw. P Vijay Laxmi of Pondichery scored in the 27th minute, while K A Anjum struck the equaliser in the 60th minute.
