Chhatrapur: Community celebration of Ganesh Puja has been banned in Ganjam district. Low-key celebrations at individual houses, however, have been allowed in Chhatrapur subdivision, special additional district magistrate (ADM) Parul Patwari said Friday.

The ADM said the administration is working with a goal of reducing the number of COVID-19 active cases to zero. “The total number tests done till Thursday was 46,504. By Saturday, the day of Ganesh Puja, the figure will cross 50,000-mark,” she informed.

Informing about the COVID situation in the subdivision, she said 16,661 tests were conducted last week. The subdivision’s COVID tally till Thursday was 4,541. Of them, a total of 3,812 patients recovered from the disease and 680 were active cases. At the same time, the disease claimed 41 lives, including six COVID warriors.

She also informed that the tehsil and police administrations have been directed to remain alert and take steps if celebration of Ganesh Puja at public places come to fore.
