Bhubaneswar: A day after the devastating fire at SUM Hospital killed 23 people, the state government Tuesday ordered a joint audit of fire fighting measures and electrical installations at all government health establishments above sub-divisional level across the state. A direction to this effect was issued by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi while reviewing the post mishap measures at the Secretariat this evening. According to sources, the joint safety audit will be conducted by energy department officials and works department with the help of fire service officials. The Chief Secretary has sought completion of the audit and submission of the report to the state government within a month. The review was attended by Fire Services DG, health secretary Arti Ahuja, works and energy department officials, Khurda collector and BMC commissioner. Sources said the health department is gearing up to issue notices to all health establishments (private and government) to conduct such safety audits and report it to the government within a stipulated timeframe.
