BHUBANESWAR: A children’s art workshop was organised by Bhubaneswar Art Trail in collaboration with Art1st Foundation here Monday.
Art1st is an art education platform which designs interactive and creative art programmes for schools, art studios, publications, films, and training sessions by bringing together teachers, practitioners, students and others interested in learning about the visual arts.
This hands-on workshop is specially designed by Art1st Foundation for school students of 6th, 7th and 8th grades as part of Bhubaneswar Art Trail. This workshop is based on the activities mentioned in the art curriculum book of the foundation. We are emphasising on the idea of mapping our localities through experience. Through this workshop, students will walk through the trail to see the art works and also the important monuments, buildings and landmarks of the area.
They will be able to identify important cultural and geographical markers present in the trail, at the same time they will learn about the locality, history of the monuments, lived experiences of everyday life, and geographical features of the city. Students will create artworks collectively based on their experience and vision. These works will be exhibited in the trail for public.
BAT curator Jagannath Panda said, “Art1st supports schools and educators to implement a strong visual arts curriculum that we develop ourselves. The curriculum books offer age appropriate curriculum for pre-primary, primary, middle and senior school children. It celebrates and draws inspiration from the rich visual arts tradition of India. Using visual arts as a pedagogical tool for creating learning environments, it aims at nurturing and strengthening the imagination, visual literacy, creative skills and cultural awareness of children and educators.
Art1st is conducting the workshop with the government schools in association with Mo School. Curators Premjish Achari said, “We are emphasising on the idea of mapping our localities through experience. Students will walk through the trail to see the art works and important monuments, buildings and landmarks of the area. We encourage students to identify the important cultural and geographical markers present in the trail”.
The students will learn about the locality, history of the monuments, lived experiences of everyday life, and geographical features of the city. Finally, students will create an artwork, mapping the trail, as part of this workshop inspired from the curatorial theme “Navigation is Offline”.
