Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: It was a night of revelry at Loyola School here as students, teachers and parents celebrated their annual day titled ‘Junior Parents’ Nite 2014’ on the school premises on a high note Friday.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Lt. Col. Sandeep K Singh. The Guest of Honour for the evening was Dr Arun Kumar Sahoo, panchayati raj and law minister.
“Since the establishment of the school in 2001, we have been organising annual celebrations every alternative year as it acts as a refresher for students and teachers and takes away from the mundane routine. We ensure each and every student plays an active part in the occasion,” said Father A. Amaladoss, principal of the school.
The programme was an amalgamation of various hues and students spread the colours of peace and happiness. Around 800 students from Lower KG to Class V showcased dance dramas based on themes like saving the girl child, child labour and other environmental issues. The dance highlighting girls as the source of life and women as an embodiment of love, power and warmth regaled one and all. Programmes like ‘Rang-Tarang’, and ‘Hold Me Almighty’ which carried thought-provoking messages enthralled the audience.
An astounding visual treat was the presentation of international dance forms like Afro-Jazz, Salsa and Rock n’ Roll, being displayed for the first time. Decked in their colourful costumes, the children stole the show.
“I’m a part of the dance drama and I feel excited as well as nervous to be presenting it in front of my parents and teachers. We have been rehearsing since October and I pray my hard work pays off,” said Suchandrana, a student.
More than a thousand guardians were assembled in the grounds, visibly enthused to be a part of the celebrations.”I never knew my daughter could dance with such grace. I thank the teachers for training them with such perfection,” said Arindam Sahoo, a parent.
The second day of the event titled ‘Senior Parents’ Nite’ which will be held Saturday will see more than 600 students from Classes VI to XII presenting a stage adaptation of the 1954 musical ‘Seven Brides for Seven Brothers’. Khurda collector Niranjan Sahu will be gracing the occasion as chief guest for Saturday’s function.
“The students are extremely talented and through these functions we get to know their hidden talent. Though a lot of patience is required to teach them, the final result is worth all the hard work,” said Sangita, principal secretary of the school.
