Bhubaneswar, April 13: Adding salt to wounds of Minister Sanjay Das Burma in chit fund scam, BJD vice-president and minister Damodar Rout Wednesday said politicians should realise their ‘moral responsibilities’ and ‘keep their morals high.’

“If I (as a politician) don’t realise my moral responsibility, who else will make me understand this,” Rout told media with an oblique reference to the ‘‘purported resignation of the food supplies minister’’ in the face of Opposition demand over the gifting of a Pajero vehicle from ponzi firm Artha Tatwa group.

Rout, known for his controversial remarks didn’t stop here. “What can be done if one joins politics for power and money without an attitude for service,” he asked.

Both BJP and Congress Wednesday said they will intensify their protests if the Chief Minister did not ask Das Burma to quit.

Meanwhile, BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy said Rout’s statement is personal and the party has nothing to do with it.
