Bhubaneswar, Dec 6: Colourful performances by folk artistes from Bhutan hugely entertained audiences at Bhanja Kala Mandap Saturday.
The ten-member troupe performed as many performances in the cultural programme which was organised by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) in collaboration with the state government’s culture department in order to give people of the state a taste of the culture of our neighbouring country Bhutan.
The programme started off with a welcome song titled Joenparlegso Zhabdro, and was followed up by sparkling song and dance presentations such as Kipi Drukyul and Merak Saktenpi Zhabdro.
The programme winded up with Zhabdro, a tribute to Rinpoche, who is regarded as the second Buddha by the people of Bhutan.
Speaking on the performance, Khandu Pen, troupe leader’s assistant, said, “It is a nice place and we are very happy to be performing here in the capital city of Orissa.” Previously, the troupe performed at the Konark Festival Thursday and at Ravenshaw Collegiate School in Cuttack Friday.
“The audience at the Konark Festival was full of applause for our performance, and we got a similar response here in the city too,” Pen added.
“Such programmes give us an opportunity to mingle and interact with wonderful people from other countries. Bhutan is a fascinating neighbouring country and we’re glad to have hosted such a programme,” said ICCR regional director R Chatterjee.
