Manchester: Manchester City continued their fairytale run in the Premier League as they beat Bournemouth 4-0 to make it 17 wins in a row at the Etihad Stadium here, Saturday.
Sergio Aguero scored a header either side of a Raheem Sterling effort, with substitute Danilo adding a late fourth against a dogged Bournemouth side to ensure Pep Guardiola coached extended their record-breaking winning streak in the top flight, with Aguero netting his 100th at the venue.
The opener came in the 27th minute as Fernandinho delicately clipped in a cross for Aguero. Bournemouth pushed up hoping to play the Argentinian offside but their timing went awry and was left to bring up his century of home goals with a simple diving header.
City doubled their lead in the 53rd minute, this time Aguero deftly flicking the ball behind him into the area for Sterling to race onto and lash home.
Aguero headed his second and City’s third goal 11 minutes from time from a cross from another substitute, Bernardo Silva. Danilo, however had the final nail in coffin to seal the victory when he fired past Begovic after being set up by Sterling in the 85th minute .
However, Arsenal produced a stunning fightback after a woeful first half display to overturn a two-goal deficit against Liverpool but were denied an improbable victory as Roberto Firmino salvaged a 3-3 draw for the visitors, Friday.
In disarray for 45 minutes and behind to a rare headed goal by Philippe Coutinho, the Gunners were in danger of suffering a pre-Christmas nightmare when Mohamed Salah raced away to put a rampant Liverpool 2-0 ahead in the 52nd minute with his 15th league goal of the season.
But the hosts suddenly came alive and, unbelievably, they were ahead by the 58th minute with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil turning the game upside down. Firmino made sure Liverpool returned north with a point with a 71st minute equaliser but Juergen Klopp was left scratching his head at how his side squandered two points.
