BHUBANESWAR: On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Khadi and Gramodyog board is all set to organise a national-level Khadi sale and exhibition titled ‘Khadi Bazar’ from October 19 to 28 at Exhibition Ground here.
More than 60 stalls will be exhibited at the fair for denizens of the city to explore. President, Khadi and Gramodyog board, Sangram Keshari Paikray said, “People must visit the exhibition-cum-sale in large numbers to encourage poor weavers who are encouraged in spectacular merchandises at the grassroots.”
“Sarees, lungi, towels and other clothing will also be exhibited at the expo. Apart from these, home decor items like cane chairs, furniture made from Sabai grass and golden grass will be the major attractions,” he added.
It may be noted that Sabaii Grasscraft industry is associated with various activities of raising production of grass and processing of consumer goods such as ropes, mats, carpets, sofa sets, wall hangings and other sophisticated fashionable articles.
Sabaii Grass grows extensively in the districts of Midnapore, West Bengal and Mayurbhanj, Orissa. Natural dyes as well as lead-free chemical dyes which are skin and environment friendly are used to dye the products. Food items like pure mustard oil, turmeric powder, spices, incense, earthen pots and many other items will also feature at the fair.
Secretary, Khadi and Gramodyog board, Saroj Kumar Patel assistant secretary Renuprabha Nayak and Triyogi Narayan Dash was also present at the press conference.
Interior decorator Meenakshi Rana said, “This expo is the perfect opportunity to buy original Sabai grass items which are in sync with environment and one can procure them at reasonable prices.”
Homemaker Malvika Tiwari said, “I always wait for this exhibition every year. I wish to procure organic spices which are scarcely available.” Last year the exhibition-cum-sale witnessed a footfall of more than 50,000 visitors.
