New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind Sunday gave the best entrepreneur award (female category) to a Bhubaneswar-based woman entrepreneur for her exceptional work within her capacities besides rendering services to the society.
Kovind, in the presence of Union Social Justice Minister Thawarchand Gehlot and other officials, gave the award to Chumki Datta, who has been successfully running an advertisement firm at Khandagiri.
The President conferred awards in 14 different categories to the people living with some form of disability on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities in New Delhi.
Datta was conferred the national award by the President under the category of best
employee/self employed in the locomotor disability category and was the only woman from the country to get the award in this
category this year.
Datta met with an accident in 2003 while coming from Kolkata to Bhubaneswar and is now wheel-chair bound, however this could not break her enthusiasm and spirit to prove her worth in the society. Undeterred by the physical barriers, Datta has been spearheading her firm while ensuring that the works should help the people who need it more.
She has mostly employed senior citizens in her firm. She has also been marketing products often made by people who are physically challenged. Datta, who was overwhelmed by the national award, said it was like a dream coming true.
“We all often dream to get an award from the President for our works someday, however very few people really get the chance to achieve it. For me receiving the award was like a dream coming true. During our short talk, the President asked me to dream big and continue with the works I had been doing,” Datta
told Orissa POST.
