New Delhi: Opposition Thursday paralysed Parliament, with the Rajya Sabha disrupted over Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad’s reference to Uri terror attack in the context of demonetisation.
The Upper House witnessed repeated adjournments. Proceedings for the day in the Rajya Sabha ended minutes past 3 pm following a clash between opposition and ruling party members after Azad’s reference to the Uri terror attack.
The ruling side termed the comments as “anti-national” and demanded an apology from the Congress besides seeking deletion of the remarks from the official records. Azad’s remarks were expunged later Thursday night.
Congress and other opposition parties pressed for the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the House and a response from him on hardships caused to people but the government rejected this demand outright.
AIADMK members, meanwhile, trooped into the well and created uproar demanding that Karnataka release Cauvery river water to Tamil Nadu.
The Lok Sabha could carry out business only during the Question Hour, that too amid uproar, after which it was adjourned for the day minutes past noon.
