Keonjhar: Tension gripped the residents of Dimirimunda village under Sadar police limits in this district after a Class IX girl was found hanging from a tree under mysterious circumstances Sunday morning.
The girl who had been missing from her house from Saturday evening was found hanging from a tree in a forest near the village. The matter came to the fore after locals on their way to relive themselves spotted the body.
The deceased girl has been identified as Rajani Munda.
According to reports, Rajani went missing from her house Saturday evening. Family members searched for her but in vain.
Later, her lifeless body was found hanging from a tree near the village this morning. On being receipt of the information, police arrived at the village and launched a probe. The body was seized and sent for autopsy.
While nothing has been ascertained, police suspect it to be a case of murder as per circumstantial evidences and started an investigation.
On the other hand, residents suspected the role of a local boy-Tulu Oram in the incident. The girl was seen with Tulu for the last time near the forest where she was found dead, they claimed.
“We questioned Tulu about the whereabouts of my sister last night but he gave contradictory statements. Locals suspect he was having an affair with my sister which could have a role in her death,” said Basudev Munda, brother of the deceased.
The body has been seized and sent for autopsy. The exact reason will be known after the arrival of the autopsy reports. We are also interrogating the suspects, police said.
