Daringbadi: Police arrested a Class X student for his alleged involvement in the gangrape of a 15-year-old girl a few days back while she was returning home with her polio-stricken father near Kerkabadi jungle in Kandhamal district.
The 16-year-old boy was one of the two accused who had gagged the girl and raped her in front of her father.
The other accused Lipun Nayak, (20), an auto-rickshaw driver, is undergoing treatment at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur after he was beaten up by angry villagers, said IIC, Daringibadi police station, Tusharkant Mohapatra.
Nayak was first admitted Daringibadi CHC and then shifted to MKCG. He would be arrested after there is improvement in his condition, police said, adding a case was also registered against villagers for assaulting Nayak.
According to the case diary, the rape took place when the girl who had gone to the block office to collect her residency, income and caste certificates along with her father was walking home through a forest road Thursday evening.
The accused persons appeared from nowhere and dragged the girl into the forest and took turns on her. Unable to do anything, the father ran to the village crying for help and alerted the villagers who rescued the unconscious girl from the forest.
Before sending the minor boy to the juvenile justice board a medical test was conducted on him, police said.
Minor boy held for raping girl
Parlakhemundi: Police Tuesday arrested a minor boy on charges of abducting and raping a minor girl at Kidigaon village under Kashinagar block in Gajapati district.
Sources said the two were in a relationship. Taking advantage, he allegedly abducted the girl and raped her June 15. In fear of public stigma, the girl was seeking shelter at the house of a relative in Vishakhapatnam.
After being alerted of the matter by the relative, the girl’s mother lodged a complaint based on which the arrest was made. The victim will be sent for a medical examination after which the boy will be produced before the juvenile court Wednesday, police said.
