Thuamul Rampur: A cleanliness drive was organised in Kalahandi district’s Thuamul Rampur Friday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The drive was organised by the local Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court, with the judge joining volunteers in cleaning public places.
Thousands of people had gathered in the area October 1 to attend Kalahandi’s popular Bali Yatra and Jhamu Yatra. The gatherings left considerable waste in public places. In view of environmental cleanliness and public health, the Thuamul Rampur JMFC court organised the special cleanliness drive.
Following an appeal and invitations sent through letters, members of local social organisation Youth United for the Vision of Ambedkar (YUVA) participated in the drive as volunteers.
The campaign began at 10 a.m. and covered the area in front of the JMFC court, the festival pandal, the bus stand and the area in front of Maa Manikeswari Temple. Judges, lawyers, court police personnel, local police station staff, IRBN personnel, court clerks, other court employees and local residents actively participated in the drive. Members of YUVA also took part in the cleanliness campaign.
The court’s initiative to maintain cleanliness in public places following festivals and large gatherings was appreciated by local intellectuals and residents.
