Baripada: A video depicting a traffic policeman helping a differently-abled woman cross a busy traffic intersection by holding her hand has gone viral on social media platforms here. The traffic cop has also been drawing a flood of good wishes for acting as a ‘Good Samaritan’.
Around 11:30am Thursday a differently-abled elderly woman appeared at the crowded Takatpur Square on NH 18 here. Apparently, the elderly woman was finding it hard to deal with the heavy traffic and cross the road. Every time she attempted to negotiate the road, the busy traffic pushed her back.
Meanwhile, traffic cop Sudip who was manning traffic flow at the crossing noticed the plight of the woman. Exhibiting a rare humane gesture, Sudip held her hand and guided the woman to the other side of the road.
According to sources, Takatpur Square is a busy thoroughfare and everyone finds it difficult to commute on or cross the road due to the rush of heavy vehicles.
When this correspondent asked Sudip about the incident, he said, “I was only doing my duty. It is our duty that we help the elderly and differently-abled as they are special. I always try to render my services to the needy in every walk of life”.
