Close shave for 3 as crocodile enters home

Malkangiri: Three members of a family, including two children, got the shock of their lives after discovering a crocodile at their doorstep.

Upon being alerted, the children’s father Dasarath Madkami rushed to the spot and managed to tie the 10-ft long reptile with the help of locals.

The incident was reported from Munsa village in Sindhrimal panchayat under Sadar block late Tuesday night. Forest officials have rescued the animal and it would be released in river Chitrakonda, Malkangiri forest ranger Basudev Nayak said.

The crocodile that came from Satiguda dam sneaked into the village after climbing a nearby hill. It must have crawled nearly half a kilometer before entering Dasarath’s house, locals said.

According to reports, Dasarath was shocked to find the crocodile near the door of one his rooms when he woke up from his sleep at about 3 am to relieve himself. He was in a state of panic as his wife and two children were inside the room.

Left with no option, he shouted at the top of his voice and the villagers gathered at his home. Dasarath’s wife and two daughters Uttara and Rinki were crying as the reptile was at the door.

A few neighbours mustered courage and entered the room after breaking open the roof to rescue the trapped family members. Later, they managed to get hold of the reptile and informed the forest officials who rescued it.

The villagers resisted the move of the department to release the crocodile again in Satiguda dam.

Ranger Nayak said the crocodile would be released in Chitrakonda reservoir after an examination by a medical team.   PNN
