Close shave for school kid as villager shoots arrow at him in Odisha

Naktideula: A Class IV student had a close shave after a villager shot an arrow at him while he was travelling to school with his father on a bike at Keutaberni village in Salebhata panchayat and this police limits in Sambalpur district, police said.

The student was identified as Soumya Ranjan Dhal, son of Amulya Dhal and student of Keutaberni Primary School in the village.

Luckily, Soumya Ranjan escaped injury Monday after the arrow struck the plate he was carrying in his schoolbag for having mid-day meal. Police detained the accused person and were questioning him.

According to the complaint, Soumya Ranjan was riding to his school on the pillion of his father’s motorcycle around 10 am. The attack took place in front of the accused’s house.

Amulya told police that he and the man had engaged in an argument over an issue about a month ago. Since then, the man had allegedly threatened several times to kill Amulya and his son with a bow and arrow.

Fearing for his safety, Soumya Ranjan had not attended school for about a month, the complaint read. On being informed, Naktideula police reached the scene and seized the student’s schoolbag with the arrow lodged in it. Police registered a case based on the complaint and launched an investigation, Naktideula police station IIC Amunsen Kiro said.
