Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Saturday condoled the deaths of seven Odia tourists in a road accident in Madhya Pradesh and directed officials to coordinate with the MP Government and local administration for the early transportation of the mortal remains to Odisha.
Majhi expressed deep grief over the tragic incident and conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. He directed the officials to complete all necessary formalities in coordination with the Madhya Pradesh authorities and ensure that the mortal remains are brought back to Odisha with due dignity.
“The State Government stands firmly with the bereaved families in this hour of grief,” the Chief Minister said, praying for eternal peace of the departed souls.
Seven of Odisha family among eight die as car falls into swollen drain in MP
According to reports, seven devotees from Odisha, including three children and two women, were killed along with the driver when their vehicle was swept away by a rain-swollen seasonal stream near the Maa Baglamukhi Temple at Nalkheda in Agar Malwa district of Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.
Sources said the family had hired a taxi from Ujjain to visit the temple and was returning after darshan when the vehicle entered the overflowing stream amid strong currents following heavy rain.
Police sources said all eight occupants of the vehicle were trapped and subsequently recovered dead during the rescue operation. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination and a case was registered in connection with the incident.
The deceased members of the family were residents of Jayadev Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik also expressed grief over the deaths of the Odia devotees in Madhya Pradesh.
In a statement, Patnaik said he was deeply saddened to learn about the heartbreaking accident in which Odia devotees lost their lives. He conveyed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace of the departed souls.
