Boinda, May 21: All kutcha houses would be converted into pucca houses under the Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana. Besides, all other poll promises made ahead of the general elections would be fulfilled over the next four years, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik averred Thursday. He was addressing a rally in Athamallik during his one-day visit to Angul district.
The Chief Minister said Athamallik has seen all round development since the BJD government came to power. As communication is important for development, foundation stone for the construction of the Athamallik-Dhalapur bridge has been laid to link the district with southern Orissa, Patnaik added.
Describing the welfare measures taken by his government, Patnaik said irrigation facilities have been strengthened for the prosperity of farmers, rice at Re 1 per kg is given to the poor and rice-dalma is also provided to the poor at Rs 5 a meal under the Aahar scheme.
The government spends money from its own sources to implement these schemes and the development of rural economy, protection of women and growth of education sector have been the thrust areas for his government, Patnaik added.
Rural development minister Badri Narayan Patra, who also attended the meeting, said about 600 bridges have been constructed under the Biju Setu Yojana during the BJD rule and construction of several other bridges are under way. Bridges will be constructed on all canals in Athamallik area, the minister assured.
Among others, Chhendipada MLA Sushanta Behera, civic body officials, ADM and SP of Angul and other police officials were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Patnaik had unveiled a plaque of the bridge to be set up on Sanjamura-Raniakata canal. He also inaugurated the construction work of Kurumtap-Gundurikhali bridge, besides another bridge at Oradajor and a 200-bed hostel of Mahendra High School of Athamallik.
