Cuttack, April 4: The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has decided to set up 100 drinking water kiosks (jala chattras) across the city.
“We are going to set up 100 such kiosks throughout the city within a week jointly with some voluntary organisations,” said CMC commissioner Gyana Ranjan Das.CMC will ensure that all such kiosks will get water in the morning, he said. “All major traffic conjunctions, markets and bus stops will be provided with temporary drinking water kiosks,” said Das.
Stringent tests will be conducted to ensure that the water is fit for drinking, especially in view of the recent jaundice outbreak, said the CMC commissioner.“At least two temporary kiosks will be set up in each ward in the public private partnership (PPP) mode. The main focus will be on supply of water through tankers,” said a senior CMC official.
The temporary kiosks will be set up by various voluntary organisations while CMC will provide the kiosks with drinking water everyday. It will also allot space to set up the kiosks at strategic locations in the city. The areas where the kiosks would be installed include Badambadi, Buxi Bazaar, College Square, Chaudhury Bazaar, Nua Bazaar, Jagatpur, Tulasipur, Jobra, Naya Sarak, and Manglabagh.
