Kendrapara/Paradip: In view of the rough condition of sea under the impact of Titli, marine fishermen of coastal districts such as Kendrapara and Jagatsinighpur were issued warning by the authorities against venturing into the sea, reports said.
The sea would be rough and hence fishermen should avoid going to the sea for two days, said the officials.
In view of the forecast, fishermen have started anchoring their vessels at fishing harbours and jetties as the state government has issued a cyclone alert and advised them against venturing into the sea.
Furthermore, the district administration has advised people to remain indoors and avoid travel at night, especially in flood-prone areas. Also, those residing along the riparian areas were put on high alert.
Hundreds of boats were seen docked at Kharinashi, Jamboo, Kajalapatia, Bahakuda and Talachua in Kendrapara district and at jetties in the fishing harnour in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district. Nearly 650 trawlers and 3000 fishing boats have returned from the sea to the fishing harbor in Paradip, said the reports.
Meanwhile, the district administration has taken adequate steps to call out fishermen who were still in the sea. Loudspeakers were used to warn fishermen against venturing into the sea. Awareness camps were organised in fishing villages to convince people against going into the sea in the dangerous weather.
Moreover, the fisheries department has been put on high alert and was directed to take action against fishermen who ventured into the sea in spite of the warning. Meanwhile, a cyclone warning flag was hoisted at Paradip port to alert fishermen who were still in the sea to come back.
When contacted, Kendrapara Collector Dasarathi Satapathy said steps were being taken to help people combat the cyclone in the seaside villages of Rajnagar, Mahakalpara and Rajkanika block.
All vulnerable pockets have been put on high alert and cyclone shelters are being set up to accommodate people in the case of an emergency, he added.
