Bhubaneswar: After a gradual rise in the mercury level during the last few days, the atmospheric temperature dipped in the last 24 hours as the cold wave returned to Odisha, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release Tuesday.
The IMD release further said that a high pressure zone had formed over Odisha preventing the wind flow from the north. However, with the subsidence of the high pressure, cold winds have started flowing across Odisha since the last 24 hours.
“As the weather is now clear and cold winds have started blowing across the state, the night temperature is most likely to dip by 2-3°C in some places in interior Odisha. In other places of the state, the mercury level is likely to drop 1-2°C during the next three days till January 18,” the release added.
The release has also cautioned drivers to be cautious as poor visibility due to heavy fog in the north and coastal districts may mar their driving during the period.
Meanwhile, the lowest temperature was recorded in Talcher (9.5°C) Tuesday. Besides, the temperature at Angul was 12°C, Jharsuguda (11.2°C), Keonjhar (12.9°C), Sambalpur (12.5°C), Sundargarh (11°C), Balangir (11.4°C), Koraput (11.6°C), Phulbani (11.5°C), Titlagarh (12.5°C), Sonepur (12.2°C) and Daringbadi (11.5°C).
