Bhubaneswar: Severe cold wave situation continued to grip the state Wednesday with 14 places recording below 10 degrees celsius.
According to Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, at least 14 places in the state have recorded less than 10 degrees celsius Wednesday. The lowest minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees was recorded at Phulbani town while it was 4 degrees at Daringibadi, 6.5 degrees at Sundergarh and 7.1 degrees at Hirakud.
Similarly, the minimum temperature at Angul was 7.6 degrees while the mercury fell to 7.9 degrees at Keonjhar, 8 degrees at Jharsuguda, 8.2 degrees at Bolangir and Bhawanipatna, 8.3 degrees at Sambalpur, 8.4 degrees at Sonepur, 9 degrees at Baripada, 9.1 degrees at Dhenkanal and 9.4 degrees at Balasore, the Met centre said.
The capital city Bhubaneswar registered a minimum temperature of 11 degrees while it was 10 degrees at Cuttack.
The cold wave situation put the normal life out of gear. People are mostly seen huddling around open fire with warm clothes put on. Persons going for work and school goers have been facing difficulties to reach their destination due to the cold wave. Vehicular movement has been affected in several places due to fog.
The Met said similar weather condition will continue in the state till January 15. Director of Bhubaneswar Met Centre said the present climatic condition indicates the mercury to fall further. The prevailing weather condition will continue for some more days in many places.
