Cuttack, March 7: The district administration has come up with a slew of measures to stave off water crisis and combat sunstroke-related incidents in the summer.
During a recent meeting held at the Sadbhawna conference hall, district collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra directed the rural water supply and public health departments to repair defunct tube-wells by March 31 in order to prevent water scarcity. Tube-wells must be repaired within 24 hours of lodging a complaint, the collector said.
Officials were also directed to rope in a private firm selling overhead water tanks to provide water to areas grappling with severe water scarcity. The collector also asked officials to open water kiosks from April 1 with the help of youths’ associations and truck-owners’ associations.
Special wards will be opened at district headquarters hospital for treatment of sunstroke patients. Separate male and female wards would be opened at SCB Medical College and Hospital, said Mishra.
Mishra also asked schools to ensure no examinations are held after April 30. He advised school authorities to begin classes at 6.30 am and finish by 10.30 am. Labourers have been advised not to work between 11 am and 3.30pm.The collector also directed officials to ensure sufficient supply of ORS packets and water at buses and workplaces to tackle sunstroke cases.
It was also decided to open round-the-clock control rooms at the district collectorate, block offices and tehsil offices to address sunstroke-related grievances.
The collector also directed Central Electricity Supply Utility (CESU) authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply during summer.
The meeting was attended by district rural development agency director Trilochan Pradhan, additional district collector Lakhmidhar Mohanty, sub-collector Harish Nayak, district emergency official Sanjibita Ray, block development officers and tehsildars.
