Chikiti: A computer teacher was arrested after he allegedly raped a girl student under this block and K Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district, police said Monday. The accused has been identified as Rabindra Kumar Panda, a native of Chikitigarh. He was working as a teacher at a private computer training institute at Chikiti Bazaar. The accused was taken for medical examination and later, produced in a court at Patrapur. He was remanded to judicial custody after the court rejected his bail plea Monday. The accused had been arrested Sunday.
Police arrested Panda after the victim’s father lodged a complaint against the former at K Nuagaon police station, Saturday. Police said the accused called the survivor to the institute on the pretext of issuing her a certificate and raped her over there. He had also warned her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to others. However, the girl narrated her ordeal to her parents following which a police complaint was lodged.
Police are also trying to find out whether the accused had approached any other girl in a similar manner.
