Bhubaneswar: The fight between the Congress, the BJP and the BJD escalated after BJD vice-president Surya Narayan Patro claimed that the Congress in the state will soon merge
with BJD.
Patro, whose reaction came in the backdrop of the joining of late Bijepur MLA Subal Sahu family in BJD, said, “The BJD and Congress have virtually become one. The Congress and its workers don’t have any other option except joining BJD. You will find hundreds of Congress workers coming to Naveen Niwas, residence of BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, daily and join the party.”
Stating that the Congress party is facing a leadership crisis both at the state and the Centre, Patro said “The Congress in the state will be decimated soon and there is no doubt about it.” He also termed BJP a ‘zero’ in the state. “Hundreds of BJP workers are also quitting their party and joining the BJD,” Patro claimed.
Senior Congress leader and former OPCC chief Niranjan Patnaik said, “It is the BJD which will cease to exist after party president Naveen Patnaik’s retirement.” “Soon it will be BJD which will have no other option but to join the Congress or the BJP,” Patnaik said.
BJP leader Sajjan Sharmaclaimed that both the BJP and the Congress will be reduced to margin in state.
