Cuttack: A Congress activist hurled an egg at the vehicle of panchayati raj and law minister Arun Kumar Sahoo near CDA Sector-11 here Thursday.
Sahoo was on his way to inaugurate the office of the BJD legal front at CDA Sector-6 when the incident occurred. The Congress worker hurled an egg at Sahoo’s vehicle near Biren Mitra Park and tried to flee, according to sources.
However, a few BJD workers who were escorting Sahoo’s vehicle chased the Congress activist and attacked him. Police detained the Congress worker. A few political observers, meanwhile, blamed the commissionerate police for the incident. They alleged that police did not take any action to prevent the egg hurling and the subsequent clash among the workers of the BJD and the Congress.
“The Congress worker was alone. Our personnel thought that he was there to witness the minister’s cavalcade,” said deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora.
