Koraput: Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati Friday sought the intervention of the chief ministers of Odisha and Tamil Nadu to facilitate the return of the mortal remains of a 24-year-old migrant worker from Koraput district, who died in the southern state on August 17.
The deceased, identified as Duryodhan Amanatya of Khangarguda village under the Kumuli panchayat in Borigumma block, had recently travelled to Tamil Nadu in search of work and was working at a brick factory at Obulapuram under the Gummidipoondi taluka, according to the family.
“According to the information available to the family, Duryodhan suddenly fell ill August 17 and was admitted to a government hospital at Ponneri. He was later declared dead. However, his body has reportedly remained at the hospital for the past three days without the post-mortem being conducted, leaving his family distressed,” the Jayapur MLA said.
Expressing concern over the delay, Bahinipati took to X and urged the chief ministers of both states to intervene and ensure that the necessary procedures are completed at the earliest.
“I have come to know about the death of Duryodhan Amanatya, a young worker from Borigumma, in Tamil Nadu. His mortal remains have reportedly been lying at the hospital for three days without the post-mortem. I request the Odisha and Tamil Nadu governments to intervene and ensure that the body is brought to his native village without further delay,” Bahinipati said on social media.
The MLA also urged the Koraput district administration to take necessary steps and coordinate with the Tamil Nadu authorities to facilitate the transportation of the body to Khangarguda village so that the family can perform the last rites.
“The matter will be looked into and necessary action will be taken,” said Jadumani Nayak, sub-collector, Jayapur.
