Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) Saturday demanded an apology from Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for his remarks on Rahul Gandhi and the Congress over the Voter Adhikar Yatra incident in Bihar, which the party alleged was staged by the BJP.
Addressing a press conference here at Congress Bhawan, OPCC spokespersons Rajani Kumar Mohanty, Nishikant Mishra and Jayashree Patra alleged that the BJP was conspiring to malign Rahul Gandhi and derail the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
Mohanty alleged that the BJP, through its minority cell functionary Mohammad Rizvi, deliberately tried to create a controversy by making objectionable remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother at a press meet in Patna.
“Rahul Gandhi was not even present during that press conference, yet the BJP is attempting to defame him and the Congress leadership before the people,” he added.
Mohanty further said that although media reports and photographs on social media identified Rizvi as a BJP functionary seen with senior leaders like former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister Majhi still chose to target Rahul Gandhi and the Congress without any factual basis.
The Congress spokesperson also recalled past instances where BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Modi, had made derogatory remarks against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, questioning why CM Majhi never objected to such comments.
Mohanty reiterated the demand for an apology from the Chief Minister over his remarks against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress.
