New Delhi: Congress has released a series of tapes of a sting operation which alleges that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its president Amit Shah were involved in a massive corruption row during ‘Demonitisation’, helping businessmen and politicians exchange the devalued notes.
Congress party spokesperson Kapil Sibal, while speaking Tuesday at an AICC press briefing at the Congress headquarters in New Delhi, claimed that three series of notes worth rupees three lakh crores were printed abroad and smuggled into the country through the Hindan Air Force Station in Ghaziabad.
As per the report, the exchange was conducted by a special team of officials from all departments and was headed by Shah. The notes from the businessmen and ministers were exchanged at a rate of 35 to 40 per cent.
The tapes also show an employee of Cabinet Secretariat, Rahul Ratharekar, opening up about the incident. Transactions being carried out at the godown of Maharastra Industrial Development Corporation also feature on the tapes.

Despite the severity of the revelations, Indian news channels who were telecasting the press conference, immediately took it off air once the videos of the sting operation came on the screen.
