Baripada: A Constable of 5th Battalion in Baripada in Mayurbhanj district was allegedly assaulted by his associates and three senior officers in the premises of the battalion Saturday.
The injured Constable, identified as Kalicharan Kisku, has been admitted to Baripada district headquarters hospital (DHH).
Kalicharan alleged that the incident took place when he was on quarters guard duty in the afternoon Saturday. After his duty was over, he went to a nearby pan shop to have water where one Assistant Commandant confronted him as to why he left his post during duty hours.
The senior officer then called other officers and all of them beat him up mercilessly till he fell unconsciousness, alleged Kalicharan.
Soon after the incident, the constable lodged a complaint with the Sadar police. “The three officers assaulted me with ‘lathis’. I am afraid now to work there anymore. I am a resident of Baripada but still I am scared of them. They will kill me,” he alleged.
Meanwhile, his colleagues also filed a counter case against him at the Sadar police station alleging him of attacking a few personnel of the battalion with the help of locals.
Constable Major BC Bhattar alleged that Kalicharan along with a few locals thrashed him as the latter had a grudge against him over some issues.
Bhattar, who has also been admitted to the hospital, said “I was near Gate No- 5 when Kalicharan, along with a few other locals beat me up and injured me. Somehow, I managed to escape from their clutches and rushed to the battalion and informed other officials about the matter.”
