Kolkata: Determined not to get carried away with their summer of success, England U-17 coach Steve Cooper said his team’s only objective is to work on a long-term plan of winning the World Cup and European Championship at senior level.
The expectations will obviously rise with us being the winners of two World Cups but we have a long term plan to win the World Cup and Euro at the senior level,” Cooper said at the post match media conference.
England were down by two goals inside 31 minutes but came back strongly to pump in five goals to emerge as the new champions. They also won the U-20 World Cup earlier in year in May in Korea.
Cooper dedicated this trophy to the academies and the development team of FA who worked tirelessly for three-four years with these boys. “For me it’s recognition of the English football, where we wanted to go. We are the champions of the U-17 and U-20 World Cups and the feeling is pretty special,” he added.
Speaking about the match Cooper asserted that the mood was positive even they were down by two goals at the halftime. “Halftime talk was positive. 0-2 down against the run of play and to come back winning 5-2 tells everything about the character of English players,” he said.
However, he refused to single out the performance of any particular player. “It’s a total team effort. I can give you 21 stories about 21 players why we won the World Cup,” he finished off.
