Cuttack: An on-duty police constable, identified as Saroj Patnaik, 54, died when a bullet pierced his cheek as his gun accidentally discharged here at Kishore Nagar police station here Sunday evening. According to police sources, the incident occurred when Patnaik was cleaning the weapon which accidentally went off leaving him severely wounded. On hearing the gun shot other police personnel rushed a profusely bleeding Patnaik to SCB Medical College and Hospital. However, the doctors declared him ‘‘brought dead’’. The police have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem, while investigation is underway.
