Cuttack: Commissionerate police is going all out to nab Tapan Routray and Kuni Das, two trusted aides of Sushant and Sushil Dhalasamanta, following the arrest of 34 associates of the siblings.
The commissionerate police plans to send a special team to some neighbouring states to arrest Routray and Das, sources said. “We have information that Tapan Routray of CDA area and Kuni Das of Sikharpur have sneaked into neighbouring states. We plan to send a special team to nab the two,” said a police officer.
Routray was looking after the financial matters of the Dhalasamanta brothers, police said. He was also allegedly involved in tender fixing and extortion. “Our investigation has revealed that Routray had allegedly collected `15 crore by fixing tenders last year. He had allegedly abducted one contractor and sought ransom of `15 lakh from his family,” said the officer.
Police have seized a CD that allegedly reveals Routray trying to extort money from a contractor by threatening him, according to sources. “Around 150 contractors were in regular touch with Routray. These contractors secured many projects of the water resources, the roads and building and rural development departments with the help of Routray,” said a source in commissionerate police.
Das was allegedly involved in the supply of adulterated petrol and diesel, sources said. He was also allegedly running a racket in illegal firearms. Das was also a party to many illegal activities of the Dhalasamanta siblings, police said.
“Now we are focusing on the arrest of Routray and Das. We have sought the help of our counterparts in neighbouring states to nab the two,” deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said.
