Puri: In a crack down on rave parties, police raided a bachelor party organised at a star hotel along the Puri-Konark marine drive and detained 25 persons, including 10 girls, late Wednesday night.
Young men and girls at the parties were in inebriated condition and allegedly engaged in a nude dance in a dimly lit room in a hotel room. The nuisance created by these revellers at its peak when a customer of the hotel contacted the police, sources said.
During the raid, the police found the 15 young men and 10 girls in compromising positions. However, 12 hours after their arrest, the police released them all Thursday after warnings and taking individual undertakings.
It is learnt that the police allegedly found them in hot water when they came to known two of the detainees were relatives of influential leaders of the ruling party from Berhampur in Ganjam. Subsequently, pressure mounted on the police from the higher-ups to release the detainees. Allegedly, though the police found the accused in compromising positions, they termed it as ‘bachelor party’ and not a ‘rave party’ and subsequently released them.
“The police released the detained persons because of political pressure. While such illegal activities are common in the said hotel throughout the year, police prefer to turn a blind eye to such incidents allegedly in return of monthly kickbacks,” alleged some local residents, adding, “Everyday such parties are organised at the hotel with jarring music throughout the night.”
Sources further said a youth from Jharsuguda whose wedding is scheduled for November 28 had organised the party. The 10 girls who were detained during the raid were part of a dance group from Bhubaneswar. A youth from Sunam Sahi in Ganjam had brought the girls.
The party went on till late night, despite objections of some customers of the hotel, who expressed displeasure over the nude dance and contacted the police. Acting swiftly, a team of Pantakata Marine police led by Sadar sub-divisional police officer and city DSP raided the hotel and brought the 15 young men and 10 girls to the police station.
When contacted, additional SP Jagannath Pradhan said, “Acting on a complaint, we raided the hotel. The hotel did not seek permission from us to organise the party. We released the detained persons after inquiry.”
“We have examined whether or not the hotel has the permission to use high volume loud speakers. We will take action against the hotel,” he added.
