Counterfeit currency notes of Rs 13 lakh face value sized in Sambalpur, 6 arrested

Sambalpur: A gang involved in printing counterfeit currency notes was busted Sunday by Sambalpur police. Replica notes — worth Rs 13 lakh if circulated in open market — were recovered from the gang. Police have arrested six persons in this connection.

According to a senior official, the seized counterfeit currency notes are in denominations of Rs 2,000, Rs 500 and Rs 100. Police have also seized a printer that was being used in printing materials.

In a similar incident that took place a few months ago, police had seized a huge quantity of counterfeit currency notes having facevalue of Rs 7.9 crore from a car in Koraput March 2, this year.

During routine vehicle inspection being conducted by Koraput police at a place under Sunki beat house limits, a total of 1,580 bundles with face value of Rs 7.9 crore had been seized from inside a car.
