Bargarh: A couple was killed and their two minor sons injured after a speeding Hyva dumper ran over the scooter they were riding near Gurudwara Square in Bargarh town Sunday afternoon.
The deceased couple was identified as Harekrushna Dunguri, 36, and his wife Kuntala, 30, of Ambabhona block in the district.
They were travelling with their two children on a scooter (OD 17 AF 1757) when a dumper truck (OD 17 AC 2894) allegedly rammed into them from behind, dragging the scooter underneath its wheels and crushing the couple to death on the spot. Local residents rescued the injured children and admitted them to the district headquarters hospital in Bargarh.

Following the accident, angry locals blocked the road, demanding strict action against the driver. Police later seized the truck and detained the driver for questioning. The road blockade was lifted after officials intervened.
The deceased Harekrushna was reportedly a paralysis patient, while Kuntala worked as a sanitation worker at the Ambabhona tehsil office.
With both parents dead, residents have urged authorities to ensure the care and rehabilitation of the two orphaned children.
