Bolangir: A couple was bludgeoned to death while their two minor daughters were seriously injured over a land dispute at Banbahal village under Tusara police limits in Bolangir district Thursday.
The injured were admitted to Bolangir district headquarters hospital from where they were shifted to VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) for further treatment as their condition worsened. The deceased couple was identified as Madhu Mugri and Sakhi Mugri.
According to sources, Madhu (50) had a long-running dispute with a member Tila Dharua (40) of the same village. The two families on several instances fought over the land. A police complaint was also lodged in this connection.
Meanwhile, Madhu along with his wife and two minor daughters Chandrika (17) and Rashmita (15) went to the paddy field. On learning the matter, Tila along with his wife Mukha, son Shankar, father Bidya and brother reached the paddy field and warned Madhu not to cultivate paddy in the land. A fight broke out between the two families leading to violence in the farmland. Later, Tila’s family members attacked Madhu’s family with sharp-edged weapons and killed Madhu and Sakhi on the spot while Rashmita and Chandrika sustained critical injuries.
Later, Tila fled the village along with his family members. Police registered a murder case over a complaint by Madhu’s son Radhakant and launched a manhunt to nab the accused. Bolangir SP Ashish Kumar Singh, SDPO Narayan Nayak and Tusara IIC Golkulanand Sahu reached the village and took stock of the situation.
