Kendrapara: A couple lodged an FIR at Town police station here alleging that their newborn went missing at the district headquarters hospital July 31.
In the complaint, they raised a suspicion that their children might have handed over to some other person or even sold.
According to police, 22-year-old Runi Nayak, wife of Madan Nayak, a resident of Kalapada village under Sadar police limits, was admitted at the hospital July 31. The local Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Sabitri Nayak from Khasadia village accompanied them. Runi delivered a baby boy at 8 pm. The nurse and Sabitri handed weighed the child and handed over the bady to Runi.
Later, Sabitri and the nurse asked Madan to give Rs 500 for sweets and told him to bring soap, coconut oil, blade and thread. When Madan returned he was told that his wife delivered a dead child and they have handed over the child to a sweeper in the hospital. When he asked Runi, she told that she was unconscious that time and when she became normal she realised that the kid was missing.
“When I asked Sabitri to give my newborn to me either alive or dead, she failed to give a satisfactory answer and fled from the hospital. Me and my wife returned empty handed from the hospital,” said Madan.
When asked Bijaya Kumar Bisi, IIC of Kendrapara Town police station, said they have started an investigation in this regard.
In the hospital register it was recorded that the child was born dead and Madan also received the dead child. PNN
