Bhubaneswar: Within hours after DGP Abhay conducted a meeting Thursday over COVID-19 management in the twin cities, the results have been showing. The cops have cracked down and booked 5,188 persons for violating COVID-19 norms in the state capital and Cuttack.
According to police sources, 21 shops have been sealed for violating COVID-19 norms. In the twin cities, so far 3,383 persons have been booked and fined for not obeying social distancing norm, 660 for not wearing masks. Another 1,145 person were fined for violating the Motor Vehicle Act.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had expressed displeasure Wednesday over the poor enforcement of COVID-19 norms in the twin cities. He had asked the DGP to look into it and do needful as being done throughout Odisha.
Thursday DGP Abhay had convened a meeting involving top cops. Among the major decisions taken were the enforcement of guidelines in markets and specified hotspots. Also 50 more officers from other police stations and five platoons of armed personnel will be added to enforce the guidelines. The state capital will be divided into three zones for COVID-19 norms enforcement with one DCP looking after each zone, it was decided.
