Berhampur: A JEE (Main) aspirant was denied entry into the examination centre here as he was suffering from COVID-19. This was done to prevent the spread of the pandemic, officials said. The student, following the instructions of National Testing Agency (NTA) was wearing a PPE kit. However, even then he was not allowed to enter the examination hall.
The Controller of Examinations at the Roland Institute of Technology here, Sunil Sahoo said that the student was prevented from entering the examination hall due to instructions from the district administration officials.
“We had made all the necessary arrangements for the candidates with the COVID-19 disease to sit for the exams. We had an isolation room and proper sanitisation facilities ready. We also had appointed an invigilator to keep a watch on the student. The aspirant had also come to the centre wearing a PPE kit,” said Sahoo.
“However, at the last moment, we received a notice from the district administration not to allow candidates infected by COVID-19 virus. This was done keeping in mind the safety of the other aspirants,” Sahoo added.
Sahoo also informed that allowing the COVID-19 infected persons would have created panic among others. He also said that examinations for COVID-19 infected candidates will be conducted on another day. So the aspirant who was turned away need not worry.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Kabindra Kumar Sahoo also informed that COVID-19 infected JEE (Main) aspirants will get the chance to appear for the exams in the next phase.
