COVID-19 norm violation: More than 24 people taken ill after ‘food poisoning’

Sajnagad: Violating COVID-19 guidelines proved costly for 24 persons as they were taken ill after consuming food at a function held in Totapada village under Nilagiri police limits of Balasore district Sunday.

All the victims have been admitted to the Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital (SDH) for treatment.

Sources said, some people visited the house of Sudam Pradhan at Totapada village to attain a function, Friday evening. They also consumed the stale foods of Friday evening, Saturday morning. However, from Sunday wee hour around 25 people among them including women and children complained of stomachache and started vomiting.

The ailing persons were rushed to hospital in two 108 ambulances and in hired auto-rickshaws for treatment.

On being informed about the incident, Nilagiri MLA Sukanta Nayak and Union Minister Pratap Sarangi’s personal assistant Chandrabindu Das visited the hospital to meet the patients.

Das informed Sarangi about the irregularity about the hospital authority. Sarangi called the authority of the hospital and asked them to arrange proper healthcare for the patients.

After Sarangi’s instruction, a medical team is constantly monitoring the health condition of those who suffered from food poisoning, sources said.

Even though what precisely caused the incident is not known, food poisoning is suspected to be the reason behind this.

Meanwhile, how an event with more than 100 people coming together was arranged at one place despite COVID guidelines is being questioned by locals.
