Puri: They have been relentless in their battle to prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus in Puri district. The healthcare staff including doctors, nurses and other personnel has been working round the clock to check the spread of the pandemic. However, their needs are not being looked after. They have alleged that they are getting poor quality food on a daily basis.

Healthcare personnel including doctors, nurses and health workers at Shri Jagannath Medical College and Hospital (SJMCH), Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya (GAM) and Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) COVID-19 care centres have together submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief district medical officer (CDMO), here Saturday.
They have alleged that the food they get is littered with rubber bands, dead insects and spurious items. A private caterer provides the food and they have blamed it for the supply of unhygienic food. They have also said that food brought to the COVID care centres are not covered properly.
“This is not only happening with us in the district, but also with COVID-19 infected patients who have been admitted in these care centres. We have appealed to the CDMO Dr. Narahari Moharana, requesting his direct and immediate intervention in resolving the problem,” some of the COVID-19 warriors said.
The healthcare staff has been working tirelessly during this precarious situation. Hence Puri district administration officials should look after the needs of the healthcare personnel. They should see to it that these COVID-19 warriors should get good quality and hygienic food, opined local residents.
