Rourkela: Burglars are having a field day in this town. Burgling of houses and stealing of vehicles are now taking place virtually daily. Police are yet to find out the gangs involved in burglary and carlifting. The miscreants were active Saturday night also. They tried to break into four shops located on the main road starting from Birsa Munda Chowk. This locality always remains a very busy place due to the presence of a bus terminus close by.
Attempting to break into shops on such a busy road just goes to show the audacity of the miscreants, locals pointed out. Plant Site police station inspector-in-charge Simon Lakra informed Sunday that efforts are on to identify the miscreants. “No official complaint has been filed by the shop owners. Even then, we are trying to ascertain the identity of the miscreants by checking the CCTV footage,” Lakra said. He, however, added that police have proof that three shops have been burgled. “We are trying to find out about the two other shops that have supposedly been broken into,” Lakra added.
A journalist had visited Sunday morning the Rourkela Government Hospital. While speaking to an official he saw someone else driving away his two-wheeler. He raised an alarm, but the miscreant sped away.
Police are yet to trace his two-wheeler. Only two days back Santosh Sethi, a resident of Sector-2 found his Maruti WagonR, which he had parked in front of his house missing. The incident happened Friday evening. He has complained, but the police are yet to trace the vehicle. Before this incident, a mobile shop had been burgled with the thieves decamping with more than 50 handsets.
