Bhubaneswar: The JICA assisted Orissa Integrated Sanitation Improvement Project (OISIP) work has been fast-tracked and 42 per cent of the work has been completed so far, said sources, adding the outcome follows instructions of the Chief Secretary.
This was revealed at a high-level steering committee meeting on JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here Friday.
The OISIP work in progress at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar has been expedited in the last three months taking the overall achievement up to 42 per cent, official sources said.
The projects include 632-km sewer network (252 km in Bhubaneswar and 380 km in Cuttack), 26 sewerage treatment plants and 48 pumping stations in the twin cities, said sources.
The project cost has been pegged at `2,974 crore, of which the state government is sharing `594 crore while the JICA loan component is set at `2,380 crore, they said.
The project, divided into four broad packages, has achieved a progress of 42 per cent by September-end against the overall cumulative progress of 32 per cent up till June 2016.
The Chief Secretary directed the officials to strengthen the monitoring activities at ground level and scale up the performances in coming months. Target has been set for the launch of various packages of OISIP in phases from December 2017 to June 2018.
Taking stock of the progress of the projects, Padhi further directed the executing agencies to expedite the incomplete works of drains and sewerage points before digging new areas. The housing and urban development (H&UD) department has been asked to have micro level monitoring of the physical progress and ensure that the money spent yields highest results in terms of the core works of the project.
